A review of St Columba's RC Primary School by Patrick Malone written on Wednesday 24th of June 2015
I had a great time from pr 2 -pr 7 leaving in 1964. i remember my teacher in pr 6& 7 was Mrs Quin, and the other Pr teacher was Mrs Jackson. i remember the teachers always tried to create a rivalry between the 2 classes but we were all pals outside the school. Kirkton was a small place. At that time, there was a large population with big families so many of the classes had 2 of the same year with 35-36 in each. There was also 2 non-catholic primaries, West march and Gilburn. The headmaster was Mr Quin, It was said at the time he was Mrs Quin's brother-in-law. The only time you ever saw him was assembly or SENT to him. The building was of the pre-fabricated style and was always warm thanks to the janitor Mr Duguid who lived in the bungalow within the precincts. The pr 1 and 2 were taught in the 1 level building then in pr 3 you went to the BIG school til pr 7..
